ACUTE STRESS DISORDER

Treatment for acute stress disorder reflects the short-lived duration of the illness and usually involves a benzodiazepine such as lorazepam, if any medication at all is used. Supportive counselling along with cognitive behavioural therapy may also be useful. If longer-term therapy is indicated, it should follow that outlined for PTSD.
