Diagnosing Depressive Disorders
MEDICATION AND DEPRESSION
miscellaneous medications Some medical treatments are recognized as causing depressive symptoms:
cancer therapies
cardiovascular drugs (beta blockers, digoxin)
steroids (prednisone)
L-dopa for Parkinson's disease.

Once organic causes for symptoms have been ruled out, physicians can be reasonably certain they are dealing with a major depressive episode, even if the patient does not acknowledge feelings of depression.
