CANMAT - or the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments -
is a federally incorporated academically based not-for-profit
research organization linking healthcare professionals from
across Canada who have a special interest in mood and anxiety
disorders. The ultimate goal of CANMAT is to improve the quality
of life of persons suffering from mood and anxiety disorders,
through conduct of innovative research projects and registries,
development of evidence based and best practice educational
programs and guideline/policy development.
Formed in 1995 - CANMAT operates as an independent clinical
research organization with representation from several Canadian
based universities. Each board member of CANMAT has a special
clinical, educational and/or research interest in the area
of mood and anxiety disorders, and hence brings with him or
her a particular strength and expertise.
While spread out across Canada in various research, academic
and clinical centres, CANMAT members interact, consult and convene
on a regular basis; and thus, members are continuously apprised
of all ongoing plans, activities and developments taking place
in mood and anxiety treatments across the country. In short,
the CANMAT network serves as a conduit for the vital exchange
of information and ideas - from the clinical research level to
the clinical practice level. Additionally, through its membership
CANMAT provides a direct, nationwide, informational link to all
the key health care, educational and research institutions involved
in mood and anxiety treatments. |
